¿À¼®È¯/Oh, Suk-Whan

Abstract
The author studied on the family attitude toward Epilepsy with 85 cases selected from out-patient¢¥s families at various psychiatric clinics in seven major cities in Korea. The sample contained a proper proportion by sex, by age, by occupation and by educational level. A series of questions framed to detect the attitude toward disease named Epilepsy, the attitude toward the patients, and the attitude toward society were asked by the method of questionaire. From the obtained results the author could observe the following tendencies:
1. When the diagnosis as Epilepsy was made there is the tendency that the family feels pitiful, painful, dark and desperate, and express the disgusting and ashamed feeling to the disease itself.
2. In the most of family atmosphere they experienced the dark and gloomy feeling more or less due to the patients. They were reluctant to let other people or patient himself know about the epilepsy and tried to hide it.
3. As the family they are very much concerned about the treatment as well as the future problems such as schooling, employment and marriage. Also they are very eager to have some opportunities to consult with therapist or medical facilities, about the above problems.
It is the author¢¥s feeling derived from the results that the sociopsychiatric approaches to the epilepsy are urgently desired.
